Women's Basketball Versus Fairfield Friday

CORAL GABLES, Fla.–The University of Miami women’s basketball team will try to extend its win streak to three as they play host to Fairfield University Friday night at 7 p.m. in Knight Sports Complex.

Miami enters the contest 4-3 after defeating Kentucky 74-59 Tuesday night. Fairfield enters the contest 7-2 after defeating Loyola College 75-56 on Dec. 10, the Stags have not played in 12 days.

The all-time series is tied at two-all, the Hurricanes have won the last two meetings. The last meeting was in 1997-98 when Miami defeated the Stags 87-66

The Hurricanes are coming off of their best shooting game of the season, after shooting 51.7% in the win over UK for the first time in 10 years. Alicia Hartlaub led the UM offense with 17 points, while Chanivia Broussard added 16.

Broussard leads the team in scoring averaging 11.4 points per game, while Meghan Saake leads the team with 5.4 rebounds per game, 22 assists and 21 steals. She is also averaging 7.1 points per game.

UF returns five starters from last year’s 25-8 club. The Stags feature six freshman and sophomores along with six juniors and seniors. The Stags were MAAC champions last season after a 15-3 finish. Senior center Gail Strumpf leads the Stag offense with 15.2 points and 9.2 rebounds per game.

The game will be broadcast live on WVUM (90.5 FM).
