Women's Basketball Defeats St. Bonaventure 71-51

CORAL GABLES, Fla.–Freshman Chanivia Broussard (Miami, Fla.) scored a game-high 18 points to lead the University of Miami women’s basketball team to a 71-51 win over visiting St. Bonaventure Saturday night in Knight Sports Complex.
Miami improves to 2-1 on the young season, while the Bonnies fall to 1-5 overall.
Broussard came off of the bench to lead UM in scoring, she also pulled down six rebounds and two steals in 16 minutes of action.
Sophomore’s Alicia Hartlaub (Schaefferstown, Pa.) and Meghan Saake (Wellington, Fla.) also scored in double digits picking up 10 points a piece. Saake dished out a game-high six assists, and eight boards.
The Hurricanes took a 39-23 lead into the locker room at halftime after shooting a season-high 50.0 percent from the field. The Bonnies shot 27.3 percent from the field, including 20 turnovers in the first 20 minutes of play.
Miami continued to build the lead in the second half, forcing another 16 turnovers for St. Bonaventure.
Miami shot 38.8 percent for the game, compared to 29.6 percent for the Bonnies. UM outrebounded SB 50-48.
Gellaine Clarke was the lone Bonnie to score in double digits, scoring 12 points. Melissa Fazio picked up a game-high of 10 rebounds.
The Hurricanes return to action Tuesday night as they open up BIG EAST play with No. 1 Connecticut at 7 p.m. in Knight Sports Complex.
