Women's Basketball Plays Final Exhibition

CORAL GABLES, Fla.–The University of Miami women’s basketball team will play host to Dynamo Kiev in its final exhibition game on Thursday, Nov. 16 at 7 p.m. at the Knight Sports Complex on UM’s campus. Admission is free.

The Hurricanes open the regular season on Nov. 20 at 7 p.m. against Florida Atlantic in Knight Sports Complex.

Miami returns nine letterwinners, including four starters from last years 14-15 club.

The Hurricanes will be led this season by 5-5 junior guard Sheila James (Rubonia, Fla.). She enters this season eager to improve on a sophomore season in which she led the team in scoring, averaging 11.7 points per game.

Head coach Ferne Labati enters her 13th season at the helm of the Hurricane basketball program. Labati is the all-time winningest women’s basketball coach at Miami with a record of 218-132 (.623).

In the first exhibition game, sophomore Amanda Papuga (Oak Brook, Ill.) led UM with 16 points. The Hurricanes fell 69-63 to the Premier Players Friday night.

Dynamo Kiev is a team from the Ukraine which placed 2nd in the Ukrainian Championships in 1999-00. The team is 0-9 heading into the game with UM, falling 86-71 to Clemson Tuesday night.
