Coral Gables, FL – Head women’s basketball coach Ferne Labati announced the signing of 5-8 point guard Yolonda McCormick (Miami, FL) and 5-11 swing player Melissa Knight (Philadelphia, PA) to national letters of intent to attend the University of Miami next fall.

McCormick enters her senior season at Monsignor Pace High School ranked as the nation’s 29th best player and the fifth best point guard prospect in the country by All Star Girls Report. Last season she averaged 21.5 points, 10.5 assists and 8.0 rebounds per game in leading Monsignor Pace to a 26-2 record.

“We are extremely excited and proud that Yolonda has chosen the University of Miami to pursue her collegiate career,” said Labati. “She is one of the premier point guards in the nation and possesses the natural leadership needed to excel at the position.”

Knight, the 23rd ranked wing player in the country by the All Star Girls Report, averaged 23 points and 10 rebounds per game last season at William Penn Charter High School.

Knight, an honors student and the only player in school history to record 1,000 career points, earned All-League, All-City and All-Area honors as a junior. A tremendous all-around athlete, Knight lettered four seasons in soccer and earned two letters as a member of the lacrosse team.

“Knight is one of the finest player coming out of the Philadelphia area this year,” said Labati. “She has the ability to run the fast break, penetrate and finish shots. She has the potential to become one of the premier players in the BIG EAST.”

Miami returns nine letterwinners and four starters from last season’s 14-15 squad that finished seventh in the BIG EAST Conference.
