CORAL GABLES, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – The Miami Hurricanes moved up to fourth in both the Associated Press and USA Today/ESPN Coaches’ Top 25 poll released Sunday. In the AP poll, UM moved up one spot, while Michigan leaped the Hurricanes into third. The Coaches’ poll had the Hurricanes up two spots from its preseason sixth place ranking with 1,205 points.
Nebraska remains atop the rankings with 43 first-place votes and 1,456 points overall in the Coaches’ poll. Florida State remains second with 1,422 points and 15 first-place votes. Michigan (1,303 points and one first-place vote) rose from fourth to third. The Hurricanes rank fourth, just ahead of the University of Florida (1,175 points) to round out the top five. Sixth-ranked Wisconsin is the only other team to receive a first-place vote.
Miami’s BIG EAST rivals from Virginia Tech moved up one spot to ninth in the latest poll and UM’s next opponent, Washington, remained 15th in the poll. The Hurricanes and Huskies clash Saturday afternoon at 12:30 p.m. eastern time in a nationally televised contest to be aired by ABC television.
