Following warm-ups, the team went into a game simulation scrimmagewith the first and second team offense and defense alternating series.

On the defensive side of the ball, Dan Morgan, Quincy Hipps andSheven Marshall led the Hurricanes. After the scrimmage, head coach Butch Davis gave his thoughts on howthe scrimmage and the overall spring went.
“I was pleased with most of the things we did offensively anddefensively. I was a little disappointed in the special teams. Our timingand placements needs to get better. We have good people out there, they justhave to get more live speed pressure. It was a good productive spring.”
Davis specifically addressed the progress of the quarterbacks overthe course of spring practice.
“It was a very positive spring for our quarterbacks. Ethenic Sandsreally emerged from nowhere to the point of where he is really comfortableat the position. Ken Dorsey’s poise and understanding of where the ballneeds to go has also improved.”
The new uniforms were also one of the topics that coach Davismentioned.
“I like the new uniforms. It a racier, speedier, faster look. Itdidn’t compromise the tradition and the helmet didn’t change. The U is stillthe prominent feature in the uniform.”
