Hurricanes Handle West Virginia, 70-50

MORGANTOWN, W.V. – The University of Miami women’s basketball team (9-11, 3-6 BIG EAST) snapped a five-game losing streak against West Virginia (6-15, 1-9 BIG EAST) after handing the Mountaineers a 70-50 loss in Morgantown today.
The teams traded the lead for the first six minutes of the contest. With the score tied at 10 with 14:08 on the clock, UM went on a 13-0 run keyed by two baskets apiece by juniors Camilla Oath and Dalia Clarke. The Hurricanes then extended the lead to 20 at halftime.
WVU opened the second half with a 7-0 spurt to get within 13 but were unable to sustain the run as Miami’s Alicia Heartlaub answered with two jumpers.
The `Canes limited WVU to .295 shooting from the floor and out rebounded the Mountaineers 46-39.
Hartlaub managed her fifth double-double of the season with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Osth scored a career-high 18 points.
West Virginia was led by Val Zona (12) and Christin Annie (10).
