Men's Basketball Falls To Georgetown, 65-61

WASHINGTON (AP) – Lee Scruggs scored 16 points for Georgetown, which held onto beat Miami, 65-61, in a Big East Conference game.
Ruben Boumtje Boumtje put the Hoyas (9-6, 1-3 Big East) ahead when he wasfouled on a dunk with 39 seconds left to play. Johnny Hemsley missed a3-pointer for the Hurricanes (9-7, 2-2) with 17 seconds remaining and Miami wasforced to foul. Anthony Perry sank two free throws to secure the win. EltonTyler led Miami with 18 points.
Georgetown went on a 15-4 run early to take a 19-11 lead. The Hoyas heldMiami at bay to stay ahead 35-28 at halftime. The Hurricanes opened the secondhalf with an 8-0 run to reclaim the lead.
Neither team was able maintain its lead for long. There were 18 leadschanges in the second half.
Georgetown out-rebounded Miami, 54-35. The Hoyas 32 offensive reboundsnearly matched the Hurricanes’ total. It was the most rebounds Georgetown hadrecorded against Miami in the series between the schools.
Scruggs, who joined Georgetown three weeks ago as a junior college transfer,had his best game as a Hoya. He finished with eight rebounds and four blocks togo along with his team-high 16 points.
