Hurricanes Defeat Temple

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s basketball team (6-4, 0-0 BIG EAST) defeated Temple (5-7, 0-1 A-10), 64-44, on Sunday at the Knight Sports Complex on the Coral Gables campus.
The Hurricanes held the Owls to .298 shooting from the floor, allowing only 14 baskets while causing 25 turnovers. The Hurricanes scored the first basket of the game and remained in control, leading by as much as 26 with 6:31 left to play in the first half. The ‘Canes took a 20 point lead into halftime and held on throughout the second stanza.
Miami was led by sophomore Sheila James who scored a career-high 23 points and Dona Nando who finished with a career-best 16 points. Meghan Saake chipped in with 10. Kathryn Fowler led the ‘Canes in rebounding with 11.
Melissa Eagles led Temple with eight points. Stacey Smalls led the rebounding effort with seven.
The Hurricanes return to action on Wednesday, January 5 when they travel to No. 12 Rutgers for their BIG EAST opener.
