CAREER: One of the nation’s top-rated tight end recruits in 2005 and is ready to make his mark in 2007…Pass-catching tight end is one of three tight ends competing for the starting job this season…Has played in 18 games over his first two seasons, making two starts…All-around athlete who was utilized mainly as a blocker in high school, but is also a very good pass receiver…Versatile target who can line up at tight end, wide receiver and H-back…Has outstanding technique, the quickness to get to the edge on blocks, remarkable speed, a quick burst and soft hands…History major.

 

2006 (SOPHOMORE): Played in 12 games, making two starts, as a reserve tight end…Caught three passes for 16 yards and also played on special teams…Caught one pass for nine yards vs. Florida A&M…Had his most productive game of the year against Houston, with two receptions for seven yards…Started in a two-tight end formation against North Carolina…Saw his most playing time vs. FIU after Greg Olsen suffered a concussion, but did not have any catches…Missed the Duke game…At Georgia Tech, started in a three-tight end formation along with Greg Olsen and Chris Zellner but did not catch any passes.

 

2005 (FRESHMAN): Earned valuable playing time as a true freshman, playing behind Greg Olsen and Buck Ortega…Saw action in six games and caught one pass for 14 yards…Often played in the goal-line offense…Played against Clemson, Colorado, South Florida, Duke (as the second tight end after Ortega’s injury), Temple (catching his only pass, a 14-yarder), and Wake Forest.

 

HIGH SCHOOL: One of the nation’s top-rated tight ends who fits the prototype of an impact player…All-around athlete who was utilized mainly as a blocker in high school, but was also an excellent pass receiver…Also played defensive end…As a senior in 2004, caught four passes for 160 yards…As a junior, caught seven passes for 166 yards, including a 55-yard touchdown in which he broke two tackles…Played in the Army All-American Bowl…Selected to the PrepStar Top 100 Dream Team…Rated as the No. 3 tight end and No. 28 overall prospect by Scout.com, the No. 3 tight end and No. 55 overall prospect by Rivals.com and the No. 57 overall prospect by Tom Lemming…Chose Miami over Louisiana State…Coached by David Aymond…First name pronounced: DAY-le-on.
