Byrne and Barrett to Compete at 2021 Spirit International Amateur Championship

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami golf teammates Sara Byrne and Daniella Barrett earned high recognition as both were selected to represent their respective home country at the 2021 Spirit International Amateur Championship presented by the Will Erwin Headache Research Foundation this week.

Byrne, a native of Douglas, Cork, Ireland, and Barrett, who hails from Turku, Finland, will compete at the three-day event Thursday through Saturday. The tournament will take place in Trinity, Texas, at the Whispering Pines Golf Club.

This is a team competition format with 54-hole, four-ball stroke play with the best three scores counting each day. All teams consist of two women and two men. Byrne will represent Ireland alongside Aine Donegan, Paul Conroy and Sam Murphy. Barrett will be playing with fellow Finnish golfers Krista Junkkari, Elias Haavisto and Veeti Mahonen.

There are 80 competitors, 21 ranked among the top 100 in the world amateur golf rankings, from 20 different countries competing.

Along with the team competition, there will also be a women’s and men’s team competition with both player’s combined scores each day counting. There will also be an individual competition for each gender with that will be counted with the total score for all three rounds.

Action each day will begin at 9:30 a.m. (ET) with assigned tee times off holes one and 10.

The championship will be available via livestream during competition on GolfChannel.com, the NBC Sports app and on TheSpiritGolf.com.
