W. Tennis Garners ITA Academic Awards
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s tennis team earned multiple academic recognitions from the ITA, as announced Monday morning.
As a group, the Hurricanes garnered ITA All-Academic Team distinction, a designation awarded to programs with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.2 for the academic year. This is the eighth time in nine years Miami made the list, including the seventh in a row.
The Hurricanes combined to record a superb 3.381 GPA as a team over the course of the 2020-21 academic year.
Individually, three Hurricanes picked up ITA Scholar-Athlete status, an honor given to student-athletes with a GPA of at least 3.5 for the year.
Fifth-year senior Estela Perez-Somarriba posted a perfect 4.0 GPA in her graduate sport administration program, while freshman Isabella Pfennig logged an unblemished 4.0 GPA as an economics major. Third-year sophomore Daevenia Achong joined them on the list by registering a 3.822 GPA as a finance major.
For Perez-Somarriba, the distinction was her fifth in as many years. Meanwhile, it was also the third in as many seasons for Achong. The complete list of 2020-21 team and individual honorees can be found HERE.
