Holmes Advances to First NCAA Championships

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Isaiah Holmes qualified for his first-ever NCAA Track and Field Championships on Friday.

The grad transfer’s jump of 2.16m and eighth-place finish earned Holmes a spot at the 2021 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Holmes is the second Cane this weekend to make his way to nationals after Kevin Arreaga punched his ticket in the men’s hammer throw.

The field events saw Jeffrey Williams throw 54.20m in the men’s discus and Russell Robinson jump 15.47m and Kevin Snyder 15.03m in the triple jump.

Xavier Coakley ran the 110m hurdles in 14.06 seconds to close out his hurdles season. Next on the track, freshman Solomon Strader ran the 400m in a time of 47.06 seconds to finish 18th, while McKinly Brown finished the 400m hurdles in 53.76 seconds.

Due to a power outage at the track, the men’s 4×400 relay will be re-running the event at 12 p.m.
