W. Tennis Continues Homestand vs. Virginia Tech

CORAL GABLES, Fla. The University of Miami women’s tennis team will resume play Friday morning at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.

No. 27 Miami (3-3, 1-1 ACC) is set to take on No. 35 Virginia Tech at 11 a.m. in its second of four home matches in a seven-day span. Live stats for the match will be available HERE.

The Hurricanes are 22-1 all-time, with 10 shutout wins, versus the Hokies in a series that dates back to 1999 and has featured at least one matchup every year since 2001. Miami is 11-0 at home against Virginia Tech with an overall score of 64-3. In the most recent meeting, the Hurricanes recorded a 4-1 victory on April 18, 2019, in Cary, N.C., in the second round of the ACC Championship.

Miami has three ranked singles players on its roster with senior Estela Perez-Somarriba pacing the group by holding the top spot in the national rankings. Sophomore Daevenia Achong sits at a career-best No. 72, while freshman Selma Cadar checks in at No. 96.

The Hurricanes also have one duo on the Oracle/ITA doubles list, with Achong and Cadar coming in at No. 59.

Virginia Tech enters Friday’s match at 7-1 (0-1 ACC) on the year. The Hokies do not have any ranked singles players or doubles pairs.

Following its contest against the Hokies, Miami hosts top-ranked North Carolina and Florida Atlantic in a Sunday doubleheader at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., respectively, to cap its homestand.
