Petrillo To Serve as Emcee For UM's Celebration of Women's Athletics Event
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami athletic department announced Wednesday that CBS4 reporter Lisa Petrillo will serve as the emcee of the sixth annual Celebration of Women’s Athletics on Sunday, Feb. 9, 2020.
The event kicks off at 2 p.m. when the Miami women’s basketball team takes on Atlantic Coast Conference rival Duke at the Watsco Center. Following the game, attendees are invited to make their way to the Carol Soffer Indoor Practice Facility with CWA programming beginning at 5 p.m.
“We are excited to welcome Lisa as the emcee for the sixth annual Celebration of Women’s Athletics,” Deputy Director of Athletics Jenn Strawley said. “Lisa is a UM graduate and a respected member for the Miami community who shares our vision of creating opportunities for young women. Having someone with Lisa’s experience and background continues to help us elevate this event and honor the wonderful young women in our athletics program.”
Petrillo, who graduated from Miami in 1985, works as the entertainment and lifestyle reporter for WFOR, CBS4 in Miami, hosting the “Taste of the Town” segment that celebrates South Florida’s growing culinary scene. During her time working at CBS4, Petrillo has interviewed countless celebrities including Paul McCartney, Tom Cruise, Jennifer Lopez and more.
A three-time Emmy winner, Petrillo has been working in the news industry since 1986 when she started her television career at WPLG as a producer. Over the last 30 years, Petrillo has not only emerged as the premier entertainment reporter in Miami, but also has been involved in numerous charities throughout South Florida.
“I’m so thrilled to be honoring WOMEN student-athletes and being able to come back to my alma matter is extra special,” Petrillo said. “I’m hoping that people will come out that evening, say hello and celebrate the wonderful student-athletes at UM.”
The Celebration of Women’s Athletics honors current Miami female student-athletes from each of UM’s nine women’s programs for excellence on the playing field, as well as in the classroom and community. It also recognizes some of the pioneers who have helped pave the way for the continued success of women’s athletics at Miami.
Tickets to the Celebration of Women’s Athletics are $50 per person and includes admission to the women’s basketball game against Duke.
