Canes Round Out Road Contests at Louisville
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The Miami Hurricanes volleyball team heads to Louisville for its final road match of the season, scheduled for 1 p.m. on Sunday.
With the freshmen class continuing to be key contributors, Miami (10-12, 6-9 ACC) nears the end of ACC competition with its final road match of the 2019 campaign at L&N Federal Credit Union Arena. Entering the match, Miami leads the conference averaging 1.48 aces per set. Junior Janet Kalaniuvalu leads the Canes with 29 and ranks eighth in the ACC with 0.33 per set, while also leading Miami with 286 kills.
Freshman Savannah Vach sits second in the conference with 10.61 assists per set, sitting with the 41st best average in NCAA Division I and ranks as the fourth best freshman. Vach currently ranks 17th in Miami program history with 934 assists, just one shy of moving into a tie for 16th.
Vach and freshman Kennedy Prince have each registered six double-doubles this season, totaling 12 of Miami’s 13. On top of the double-doubles, Prince has now notched the second-most kills as a freshman (276) behind All-American Lane Carico.
Entering Sunday’s match, Louisville leads the overall series 7-3, and secured the first match-up between the sides in Coral Gables, in a five-set thriller during homecoming week. The Cardinals (18-8, 11-5 ACC) enter Sunday’s match coming off a home sweep against Notre Dame on Friday night. Louisville holds the third best blocking average in the league with 2.66 per set, with Anna Stevenson ranking fifth and Alexis Hamilton in third in digs per set.
