Vach Named ACC Freshman of the Week
CORAL GABLES, Fla.– University of Miami freshman setter Savannah Vach was named ACC Freshman of the Week after the Canes opened league play with two road wins, the conference announced Monday.
In her ACC debut weekend, Vach totaled 83 assists over seven sets. In Miami’s 3-0 sweep at Wake Forest, Vach finished with an impressive 35 assists, three kills, one dig and a block.
Vach’s ability to distribute the ball within Miami’s offense was evident, as the Canes had three different players tally double-digit kills for the third straight match against Duke. The Oviedo, Fla., native registered 48 assists, three digs and one ace against the Blue Devils to move the Canes to 6-4 on the season.
Vach leads the Canes with 374 assists after 10 matches and ranks second in the conference and 30thin Divison I with 10.71 assists per set. Vach’s 10.71 assists per set ranks fourth among freshmen in Division I volleyball.
Miami ended a season-long seven-match road swing, winning the last four matches before opening home ACC play Friday against No. 4 Pittsburgh. Friday’s match is slated for 6 p.m. on ACC Network Extra.
