Cornelius Inks with Club Deportivo Zamarat
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Two-time University of Miami women’s basketball team co-captain Laura Cornelius is set to start her professional career with Club Deportivo Zamarat in Zamora, Spain.
The team has played in Liga Femenina de Baloncesto, the highest level of Spanish basketball, since 2011 and reached the semifinals in 2012-13.
“I’m very excited to play my first professional season for CD Zamarat,” Cornelius said. “The Spanish league is one of the best in Europe and I look forward to playing against some of the best players in the world.”
Cornelius, who elected to forego her final season of collegiate eligibility to begin playing professional basketball, competed for the Hurricanes from 2015-17 and 2018-19, while redshirting in 2017-18 due to injury.
A 5-foot-8 guard, Cornelius set the Hurricanes’ all-time record with a 39.1 3-point percentage. She connected on 143-of-366 attempts from beyond the arc in her career, good for the eighth-most makes in program history.
Cornelius is the only player in program history to shoot 6-of-6 from 3-point range in a game and did so twice, both in ACC play. She owns four of the 20 occurrences of a Hurricane making at least six 3-pointers in an outing.
The Groningen, Netherlands, native is one of five Miami players to earn multiple All-ACC Academic Team recognitions.
