Rowing Closes Out Lake Wheeler Invitational
RALEIGH, N.C.– The University of Miami rowing team wrapped up its final regatta before the ACC Championships, competing at the Lake Wheeler Invitational on Saturday.
Inclement weather shortened the Lake Wheeler Invitational to just one day of competition, but the five Hurricane boats in action made the most of their racing opportunity. Nine different schools were in the field in Raleigh, N.C. including Clemson University, Duke University, Georgetown University, Michigan State University, Temple University, University of Central Florida, University of North Carolina, and the US Naval Academy.
The Canes opened competition Saturday morning with the Varsity 8 posting a time of 6:52.147. The Second Varsity 8 finished next with a time of 7:06.955. The Varsity 4 was up next in the water, coming in with a time of 7:39.242. The Third Varsity 8 finished with a time of 7:25.828. The final boat in the water in the morning session was the Second Varsity 4, finishing with a time of 7:41.949.
Miami’s Varsity 8 kicked off the finals finishing second in Final 3 with a time of 6:35.269. The Second Varsity 8 also competed in Final 3, finishing at second with a time of 6:56.016. The Third Varsity 8, competing in the Final 3, finished with a time of 7:24.470. The Varsity 4 also came in second in the Final 3, coming in with a time of 7:38.027. Finishing off for the Canes, the Second Varsity 4 was second in Final 2 with a time of 7:41.67.
On May 17, Miami will take part in the ACC Rowing Championships in Clemson, S.C., while the NCAA Rowing Championships are slated for May 31-June 2 in Indianapolis, Ind. For a complete look at Miami’s schedule, click here.
