Rowing Heads West to Natoma Invitational
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s rowing team heads across the country to compete at the Lake Natoma Invitational.
Three Hurricane boats will compete over two days in Gold River, Calif. Nine teams are set to compete including Brown University, Sacramento State University, Stanford University, University of California Berkeley, University of Southern California, University of Tulsa, Gonzaga University, and University of Notre Dame.
“We are looking forward to some great racing out in California,” head coach Dave Sanderson said. “The single most important thing for our boats is that they come away from the weekend as faster crews who have continued to improve their racing and overall speed each time down the course. “
On Saturday morning, the Hurricanes will be racing out of Lane 3 against Brown University and the University of Southern California. Miami’s Varsity 4 is set to begin at 9:20 a.m. The Second Varsity 8 enters the competition at 9:50 a.m. The Varsity 8 will finish off the morning races at 10:20 a.m.
The Canes are back in the water Saturday afternoon racing out of Lane 2 against University of California, Berkeley, and Gonzaga University. Miami’s Varsity 4 starts off the afternoon races at 3:40 p.m. The Second Varsity 8 begins at 4:10 p.m., and the Varsity 8 finishes off Saturday at 4:40 p.m.
The rowing team is back in action on Sunday morning for their final day of racing in the Lake Natoma Invitational. Miami will be racing out of Lane 2 against Sacramento State University and University of Tulsa. Miami’s Varsity 4 will kick off the morning at 8:30 a.m. The next boat, Miami’s Second Varsity 8 will begin at 9:00 a.m. The last boat of the day, the Varsity 8 will finish the morning at 9:30 a.m.
The Canes’ next regatta takes the Hurricanes up to Chapel Hill, N.C., to compete against North Carolina, Duke, UCF and Navy on April 27.
On May 17, Miami will take part in the ACC Rowing Championships in Clemson, S.C., while the NCAA Rowing Championships are slated for May 31-June 2 in Indianapolis, Ind. For a complete look at Miami’s schedule, click here.
