Chambers Named ACC Men's Track Performer of the Week
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami’s Raheem Chambers was named the ACC Men’s Outdoor Track Performer of the Week, as announced by the conference Wednesday.
Chambers ran the fastest collegiate time in the 200m dash at the Hurricane Invitational with a time of 20.98 seconds. In his first race on the Canes’ home track, Chambers broke into Miami’s top five all-time list in the event and now holds the third-fastest time.
“It was a great opener for Raheem,” director of track and field/cross country Amy Deem said. “With all of his experience, he’s going to be a great leader for our men’s team this season.”
The junior transfer is the first Miami male student-athlete to win a Track Performer of the Week honor since Devon Hill was honored during the indoor season in 2011.
Chambers ended his first indoor season with the Canes breaking the program’s record in the 60m dash at the ACC Championships with a time of 6.62 seconds. The Kingston, Jamaica, native earned a silver medal for his time, earning the Canes lone individual event medal for the men.
The Hurricanes are set to host the Power 5 Trailblazer Challenge on March 22-23, which will feature USC, Ohio State, Ole Miss and Tennessee. This weekend’s home meet features five Power 5 programs all led by female head coaches.
