Rowing Kicks Off Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational
OAK RIDGE, Tenn. –The University of Miami rowing team opened its spring season with two sessions of racing Saturday at the 2019 Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational.
Four Hurricane boats were in the water at the eighth annual Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational Saturday and Sunday at the Melton Lake Rowing Venue. Miami is one of five ACC teams in the field at the Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational, joined by Clemson, Louisville, Notre Dame, and Virginia, while Alabama, Minnesota, Tennessee, Tulsa, Wisconsin, and Yale complete the list of teams racing this weekend.
The Canes raced out of Lane 5 in the Saturday morning session, competing against Virginia, Minnesota. Miami’s Varsity 8 was the first boat in the water, finishing third with a time of 6:03:483. The Varsity 4 was also third with a time of 7.07.320. The Hurricanes Second Varsity 8 finished third with a time of 6.19.893, while the Second Varsity 4 also finished third with a time 7.00.411.
Miami returned to the water Saturday afternoon, racing out of Lane 3 against Indiana and Louisville. Varsity 8 kicked off the afternoon session finishing third with a time of 5.49.503. The Varsity 4 came in third with a time of 6.33.299. The Canes Second Varsity 8 finished third with a time of 5.53.013, along with Miami’s Second Varsity 4 also finishing third with a time of 6.41.076.
The Hurricanes will finish in Lane 4 on Sunday morning, facing off against Notre Dame and Tennessee. Miami’s Varsity 8 opens racing at 9:48 a.m., followed by Varsity 4 at 9:56 a.m, Second Varsity 8 at 10:12 a.m., and the Second Varsity Four at 10:28 a.m.

Miami is back in action on April 5-6 at the Sunshine State Invitational. One week later, the Hurricanes gear up for the Natoma Invitational. The two-day event will take place in Sacramento, Calif. on April 13-14.
The Canes’ next regatta takes the Hurricanes up to Chapel Hill, N.C., to compete against North Carolina, Duke, UCF and Navy on April 27.
On May 17, Miami will take part in the ACC Rowing Championships in Clemson, S.C., while the NCAA Rowing Championships are slated for May 31-June 2 in Indianapolis, Ind. For a complete look at Miami’s schedule, click here.
