W. Tennis Hosts No. 42 Notre Dame and BU in Doubleheader
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – After 11 days without a match, the University of Miami women’s tennis team hits the court Friday for a pair of contests.
No. 27 Miami (8-3, 2-2 ACC) will host a doubleheader at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center, first facing No. 42 Notre Dame at 9 a.m. That affair will be broadcast live on ACC Network Extra HERE.
The Hurricanes are then set to play Boston University at 5 p.m. to cap the day. Live stats for both matches can be found HERE.
Miami enters the weekend with one ranked singles player in junior Estela Perez-Somarriba, who places second in the country. It is the highest mark of her career and the top spot for a Hurricane since Audra Cohen finished the 2007 campaign ranked first.
The Hurricanes also have three ranked doubles pairs featuring four different players. Perez-Somarriba and freshman Daevenia Achong lead the way at No. 35 on the Oracle/ITA list, while Achong also comes in at No. 44 with senior Daniella Roldan. In addition, Roldan holds the No. 60 spot with sophomore Ulyana Shirokova.
Miami sports a 12-11 all-time record against Notre Dame, including an 8-6 ledger at home. The Hurricanes have won eight of the last nine matchups, including a 6-1 road decision on April 22, 2018 in the most recent meeting.
The Fighting Irish are 10-5 (3-3 ACC) on the season and have won back-to-back outings after dropping three straight. Their lone ranked singles player is Zoe Spence, who checks in at No. 58 nationally.
In doubles, Notre Dame features two ranked pairs, with Spence and Cameron Corse the higher-ranked duo at No. 57 overall. Meanwhile, Ally Bojczuk and Bess Waldram are ranked No. 69.
Miami is 7-0 all-time versus Boston University, with every match coming in Coral Gables, including three in NCAA Team Championship action. Most recently, the Hurricanes registered a 4-0 triumph on May 9, 2014 in the opening round of NCAA competition.
The Terriers, who are wrapping up a four-match swing in the Sunshine State, sport a 5-6 overall mark on the season and have yet to begin Patriot League play. Boston University does not have any ranked singles players or doubles teams.
Following its doubleheader, Miami has Saturday off and then meets No. 31 Georgia Tech Sunday at 10 a.m. to conclude a three-match weekend homestand.
