CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s basketball team has claimed the No. 12 seed in the 2019 ACC Tournament, which runs Tuesday through Saturday at Spectrum Center in Charlotte. The Hurricanes (13-17, 5-13 ACC) play No. 13 seed Wake Forest (11-19, 4-14) at noon Tuesday in the tournament’s opening game.
The game will be televised by ESPN and Raycom. WQAM 560-AM will have the local radio broadcast.
Competing in its 15th ACC Tournament, Miami is 14-13 all-time in the event and has won at least one game in the tournament in 11 of the previous 14 seasons. The Canes have played Wake Forest once previously in the ACC Tournament, with UM earning an 83-62 win on March 11, 2010, in the first round in Greensboro, N.C.
The Canes are the No. 12 seed for the third time (2007, 2010). As the 12-seed in 2010, UM upset the No. 5 seed (Wake Forest) and No. 4 seed (Virginia Tech) en route to a semifinal appearance. UM is 1-1 in tournament games in Charlotte (2008).
In head coach Jim Larrañaga’s tenure, Miami is 8-6 in the ACC Tournament, winning at least one game in six of the first seven years.
Miami and Wake Forest split a pair of matchups this season, with each team prevailing on its home court. The Canes pulled away for a 76-65 win in Coral Gables on Jan. 12. The Demon Deacons rallied in the final minutes to score a 76-75 victory on Feb. 27 in Winston-Salem, N.C.
