W. Tennis Checks in at No. 19 Nationally
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s tennis team is No. 19 in the latest Oracle/ITA rankings, as announced Tuesday afternoon.
Miami (6-3, 0-2 ACC) has been in the top 20 for the entire spring and peaked at No. 15 on the list in the Feb. 13 release. This week’s edition of the rankings is the second of the spring in the computer-generated format.
The Hurricanes came up just short against third-ranked Duke in their lone match last week, dropping a 4-3 decision Sunday evening at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center. Miami led, 3-1, and eventually held an overall match point, before falling to a Blue Devils team that reached the NCAA Final Four last year.
There are six ACC schools in the top 25 this week, as Miami and Duke are joined by top-ranked North Carolina, No. 11 NC State, No. 15 Florida State and No. 20 Virginia.
Additionally, Syracuse is No. 27, Wake Forest is No. 33, Georgia Tech is No. 35, Boston College is No. 40, Notre Dame is No. 44 and Louisville is No. 49. Overall, 12 of the 15 teams in the ACC are featured in the top 50.
Miami, which fell just one spot in the rankings after its setback against Duke, returns to the court Friday afternoon at 1 p.m., when it squares off with Pittsburgh in Wexford, Pa.
