Men's Tennis Announces Spring Slate

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami head men’s tennis coach Aljosa Piric announced Wednesday the team’s schedule for the upcoming 2019 spring season.
 
The Hurricanes upcoming slate will feature 22 opponents that closed out the 2018 season ranked in the ITA Top 75.
 
The Hurricanes will open the 2019 spring slate against stiff competition when they host Texas, Mississippi and Wisconsin in the Miami Invitational Jan. 11-13. Those teams finished the 2018 campaign ranked No. 12, No. 24, No. 56, respectively, in the national rankings
 
Miami begins dual match play on Jan. 18 with a doubleheader, as the Canes welcome Stetson (11 a.m.) and Liberty (4 p.m.) to the Neil Schiff Tennis Center. Three days later, the Hurricanes will host Florida Atlantic, No. 61 last year, at 11 a.m., before a road trip to Austin, Texas for ITA Kick-Off Weekend.
 
There, Miami will open with a neutral site match against Utah State, No. 50 last year, on the first day (Jan. 25, time TBD) before battling either Texas or No. 51 Washington on Jan. 27.
 
If Miami wins both matches in Texas, it will advance to the ITA National Team Indoor Championship, held Feb. 15-19 in Chicago.
 
The Hurricanes will open February with a road match against 2018 NCAA quarterfinalist Mississippi State (Feb. 1, 3 p.m.), which finished the season ranked fifth. The following weekend, Miami will travel to Iowa City, Iowa to play Iowa (Feb. 8, 3 p.m.) and Utah (Feb 9, 11 a.m.) on consecutive days. The Hawkeyes concluded last season ranked No. 57, while the Utes were No. 46.
 
Miami opens conference play against Georgia Tech on Feb. 22 at 3 p.m., before hosting Clemson at 10 a.m. on Feb. 24. The Yellow Jackets and Tigers closed out the season ranked No. 68 and 64, respectively.
 
As announced by the United States Tennis Association, Miami will battle No. 44 UCF (March 3, 5 p.m.) at the USTA National Campus in Orlando for College MatchDay. The event will be featured live on Tennis Channel, the second consecutive season in which Tennis Channel will air the College MatchDay series. For more information on the event, CLICK HERE.
 
On March 10, Miami will return to the UTSA National Campus for a battle with in-state rival Florida State, ranked No. 13 last season, at 5 p.m. This will mark the second straight season that the Hurricanes and Seminoles will face one another in Orlando.
 
Miami will wrap up the non-conference portion of its spring slate when it hosts a doubleheader on March 12 against UNC Wilmington (11 a.m.) and Boston University (4 p.m.). The former concluded 2018 ranked No. 66.
 
The Hurricanes will continue a five-match home stretch when they welcome Notre Dame (March 15, 1 p.m.), Boston College (March 17, 2 p.m.) and Connecticut (March 17, 6 p.m.) to the Neil Schiff Tennis Center. The Irish ended last season ranked No. 26.
 
Miami will then hit the road against a trio of ACC opponents that closed out 2018 ranked No. 30, sixth and No. 49, respectively. On March 22, Miami will open a two-match stand in the Tar Heel State against Duke (5 p.m.), before battling UNC (March 24, 1 p.m.). The Canes will then travel to the state of Kentucky on March 29, where they will face Louisville at 4 p.m.
 
On April 5, Miami is set to host Virginia Tech at 3 p.m., before concluding the home regular season with a noon match against Virginia on April 7. The Hokies and Cavaliers rounded out the 2018 campaign ranked No. 40 and No. 41, respectively.
 
Following the regular season home finale, Miami will close out the regular season with a pair of matches in North Carolina. Miami will first take on NC State (April 12, Noon), which wrapped up 2018 ranked No. 29, before challenging the defending national champion, Wake Forest (April 14, 1 p.m.).
 
The ACC Championship will be held April 17-21 in Cary, N.C., while NCAA Regionals are scheduled for May 10-12. The NCAA Championships are set for May 16-25 in Orlando.
