Student-Athlete: Samuel Fleischman
Year in School: Freshman
Major: Computer Science
Hometown: Summit, N.J.

Q&A:

Q: What about Miami stood out to you during the recruiting process?
A: The school was very attractive because of the academics and location. Also, the sports programs here at Miami have a great reputation.

Q: What is the main reason you chose to attend Miami?
A:  The main reason I chose to attend Miami was because I wanted to go somewhere I could further my education as well as my running career.

Q: What’s is your favorite thing about Miami?
A: My favorite thing about Miami has to be the weather and the campus. It’s sunny almost every day and it’s hard to be in a bad mood when you’re walking through a campus as beautiful as ours.

Q: When you were practicing with the team, what were some of the differences you noticed compared to high school practice?
A:  The self-accountability that comes with college athletics is the main difference. In high school, I was always told what loops to run and exactly how many miles to run each day. In college, it’s up to you to show up and put the work in because everyone does the sport by choice.

Q: What are your goals for this year?
A: My goals this year are to run in the low 27s in the 8K, run sub 9:20 in the 3200 and run sub 16 in the 5K.

Q: What has been the biggest adjustment in terms of training and in terms of campus/social life?
A: The biggest adjustment in terms of training was all of the extra resources I now have, like the normatechs, ice baths and the underwater and zero gravity treadmill. In terms of my social life, I have both friends that are athletes and friends that aren’t.

Q: If you were not running cross country/track for the U, what sport would you play?
A: I would be on the football team because I think it’d be funny to see a 6’2, 140-pound kid on the field.

Q: What is your favorite food? What food do you not like at all?
A: My favorite food has to be chicken parmesean, which they have in Canes Zone sometimes. I don’t like fish at all.

Q: What is your all-time favorite movie? TV show?
A: My all-time favorite movie is Shawshank Redemption. My favorite TV show is the Office.

Q: What do you think of the dining halls?
A: Breakfast? Thebomb.com. Lunch? I would recommend the food court or the Farmer’s Market every Wednesday. Dinner? Thebomb.freakingcom.

Q: What do you think of your classes so far?
A: Classes are great. What I put into them is what I get out of them. I’ve been able to manage my time well and keep high grades.
