Miami Selected 10th in Preseason ACC Poll
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s basketball team was selected 10th in the ACC Operation Basketball 2018-19 Preseason Poll, released Thursday by the conference office.
In each of head coach Jim Larrañaga’s first seven seasons at Miami, the Hurricanes finished the season in a higher standing than their preseason ACC ranking.
The ACC is loaded once again, with seven teams ranked in the preseason Associated Press Poll: Duke (4), Virginia (5), North Carolina (8), Virginia Tech (15), Syracuse (16), Florida State (17) and Clemson (22). Four more were among the teams receiving votes in the preseason AP poll: Notre Dame, Louisville, Miami and NC State.
Miami returns three starters from its 2017-18 team: junior forward Dewan Hernandez (formerly Huell), senior guard Anthony Lawrence II and junior guard DJ Vasiljevic. Four more letterwinners also are back from the 2017-18 squad, which went 22-10 and earned the program’s third straight NCAA Tournament berth.
The Canes also have added a pair of transfers who are eligible immediately: fifth-year senior guard Zach Johnson (Florida Gulf Coast) and redshirt freshman guard Anthony Mack (Wyoming).
Miami takes the court on Oct. 30 at home against Barry University in an exhibition game. The 2018-19 regular-season opener is Nov. 9 at home against Lehigh.
Season tickets for the 2018-19 men’s basketball home schedule start at $160 and are on sale now through the UM Athletics Ticket Office. Miami has sold out its season-ticket allotment for three straight seasons. Tickets can be purchased online HERE or by calling the ticket office at 1-800-GO-CANES.
