Baseball Recruiting Class Earns Another Top-10 Ranking

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami’s 2018 recruiting class pulled in another top-10 ranking, as the Hurricanes were ranked eighth by D1Baseball.com on Monday.

The group, ranked third in the ACC by D1Baseball.com, continues a longstanding trend of top recruiting classes arriving on campus; Miami’s 2017 class was rated eighth and its 2016 class was ranked 15thaccording to the publication.

“We are very excited about the possibilities of this class,” head coach Gino DiMare said. “It’s a group full of players with great potential and hopefully with hard work and development, over the next three years they will prove to be a top-10 type of class.”

Three members of the class were selected in the 2018 MLB First-Year Player Draft; catcher Adrian Del Castillo was taken by the Chicago White Sox in the 36th round, while infielder Anthony Vilar was picked in the 37th round by the Chicago Cubs and right-handed pitcher Slade Cecconi was selected in the 38th round by the Baltimore Orioles.

Miami’s incoming class features 11 freshmen and three junior college transfers. The Hurricanes’ recruiting class was ranked No. 10 by Baseball America and No. 20 by Collegiate Baseball.

“We are very excited about the class we brought in this year,” assistant coach/recruiting coordinator Norberto Lopez said. “This marks back-to-back top-ten classes in the country. It is always exciting to add both impact players on the mound and to our lineup. We are hopeful that all of our talented young players will continue to grow and develop and that it will translate to success on the field.”
