Canes Golf Faces Strong Field in Oklahoma

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s golf team returns to Norman, Okla., for the second consecutive year to take part in the sixth annual Schooner Fall Classic. This year’s event will be held Friday through Sunday at the par 71, 6,063-yard Belmar Golf Club.
 
The tournament will consist of 54 holes over a three-day stretch, with tee times set to begin at 10:30 a.m. ET on Friday. Action will continue Saturday at 10 a.m. with the final round scheduled for Sunday at 9:30 a.m.
 
The Hurricanes will tee off Friday at 12:10 p.m., with junior Renate Grimstad kicking off the weekend with group 11. She will be followed by graduate student Claudia De Antonio at 12:20 p.m., junior Macarena Aguilera at 12:30 p.m., sophomore Kristyna Frydlova and 12:40 p.m. and senior Dewi Weber at 12:50 p.m.
 
Live scoring for the classic will be available HERE. Coverage of the tournament will be streamed live on FOX Sports Oklahoma and FOX College Sports Central from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, while Sunday the 18th hole will be streamed live on SoonerSports.TV.
 
In the season opener, Sept. 15-16, the Hurricanes placed sixth at the 35th annual Mary Fossum Invitational in East Lansing, Mich. Weber opened her senior campaign registering her 17th career top-10 finish, while carding 11 birdies over the two-day weekend. Overall, the Groningen, Netherlands, native placed fourth with a 4-under-par 212.
 
In the final 2017-18 Golfstat rankings, Miami finished 38th and will battle eight top-40 schools in Norman. Overall, the field includes, Alabama (1), Baylor (27), Clemson (24), Florida State (20), Mississippi State (70), New Mexico (94), Notre Dame (47), Oklahoma (21), Oregon (54), Texas (7), Texas A&M (37), Texas State (93), UNC-Wilmington (88) and Wisconsin (36).
 
The Canes last competed in the Schooner Fall Classic during the fall of 2017. As a team, Miami finished 10th with a three-round total of 863, while Weber concluded the event carding a 207 (-6).

-Finished the 2017-18 season with three top-five finishes.
-Led the team to a first place finish at the 2018 Hurricane Invitational, tying for second with a five-under 211.
 
Claudia De Antonio — 12:20 p.m.
-Graduate transfer from LSU.
-Competed in 10 events for the Tigers during the 2017-18 season, posting a 74.38 stroke average.
-Had a low round of 67 last season at the Darius Rucker Invitational, where she finished fourth.
 
Macarena Aguilera — 12:30 p.m.
-Competed in all 10 events as a sophomore.
-Tied for sixth at the 2018 Florida Challenge with a total score of 145.
-Tied for 10th at the 2018 Hurricane Invitational with a three-round total of 218.
 
Kristyna Frydlova — 12:40 p.m.
-Posted a 74.93 stroke average during the 2017-18 season.
-Competed in all 10 events during her freshman campaign.
-Last season, registered a season-low three-under par 68 at the Schooner Fall Classic.
 
Dewi Weber — 12:50 p.m.
-Has posted 17 career top 10 finishes.
-Posted a team-best 72.03 strokes per round average during the 2017-18 season.
-Led the team in the season opener, shooting four-under-par.
