Canes Ready for UCF Knights Invite
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami cross country team is back in action on Saturday competing at the UCF Knights Invite.
The Hurricanes competed at the FAU Invitational on Aug. 31, where the women’s team finished second with 65 points and the men’s team finished fifth with 148 points. Freshman Ryley Howard had a standout debut race for the Canes recording a time of 18:45 in the 5K.
Miami will have five men and eight women compete at UCF’s home course, with sophomore Dylan Sykes and senior Anne den Otter leading both teams.
Sykes finished sixth in the men’s 5k at the FAU Invitational with a time of 15:38, finishing first for the Canes. The sophomore proved his leadership with the top 10 finish in the opening weekend of the 2018 season. Freshman James Hasell and Matthew Wiefels finished within milliseconds of each other to give the Canes three top 20 finishers.
den Otter joined Howard with a top 10 finish in Boca Raton recording a time of 19:07 in the 5K. den Otter, the lone senior of the women’s team traveling to Orlando, will be joined by two freshmen, three sophomores and three juniors.
The Canes will look to build off the early success the underclassmen produced at the FAU Invitational and continue to push themselves in the upcoming race.
