Stiverne Wins Women’s 400m at 2018 Canadian Track & Field Championships
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Miami track and field alumna Aiyanna Stiverne won the women’s 400m at the 2018 Canadian Track & Field Championships in Ottawa, Ontario over the weekend.
The 2017 graduate finished third overall in the preliminaries of the 400m to advance to the finals on Saturday. Stiverne, who competed unattached, won the women’s 400m with a personal-best time of 51.86 seconds.
Stiverne also reached the finals in the women’s 200m with the second-best qualifying time of 23.46 seconds. She claimed the silver medal in the 200m, besting her qualifying time with a time of 22.96 seconds in the final.
Stiverne produced three new outdoor personal bests this year in Coral Gables, posting a time of 11.37 seconds in the 100m, 22.76 seconds in the 200m and 51.93 seconds in the 400m.
While at UM, Stiverne helped the Canes win back-to-back ACC Indoor Championships in 2016-17. She was part of the women’s indoor 4x400m relay in 2017 that defended the Canes’ relay championship with a 3:34.77 time. She also helped defend Miami’s ACC title in the 2017 Outdoor 4x100m relay, which set conference, ACC Championship and school records with a time of 43.36 seconds. Stiverne finished her senior season picking up Second Team All-America honors, finishing 14thoverall in the outdoor 400m. She was also a First Team Indoor All-American in the 4x400m relay in 2017.
Stiverne was named to the 2016 ACC Women’s Indoor First Team in the 4x400m and the 2016 ACC Women’s Indoor Second team in both the 200m and the 400m.
