Three Canes Selected to All-ACC Academic Team

CORAL GABLES, Fla. Three members of the University of Miami women’s tennis team were named to the All-ACC Academic Team, as announced Monday afternoon by the conference.

Senior Sinead Lohan, sophomore Estela Perez-Somarriba and junior Ana Madcur made Miami one of six teams with at least three honorees.

This is the third distinction for Lohan, who is one of just four players on the list to make the cut at least two prior times. Perez-Somarriba is on the team for the second time, making the Hurricanes one of four schools with two-plus multiple-time selections.

A native of Waterford, Ireland, Lohan posted a 29-8 singles mark in her final collegiate campaign to end her career at 130-35, good for the fourth-most wins in program history. She earned Second Team All-ACC recognition to become Miami’s third four-time All-ACC pick and finished No. 70 in the ITA rankings.

Lohan, who graduated in May with a degree in economics, made the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll (minimum 3.2 GPA) six times as a collegian. She posted a 3.936 GPA in her last semester and tallied a cumulative mark of 3.419.

The ACC Player of the Year and ITA National Player to Watch, Perez-Somarriba turned in one of the finest seasons in school history, finishing 39-8 in singles, including 28-3 in the spring and 20-5 versus ranked foes. The four-time ACC Player of the Week and ITA All-American concluded the year ranked fifth nationally.

Perez-Somarriba, who hails from Madrid, logged her second perfect 4.0 GPA in the spring. An economics major, Perez-Somarriba is a four-time Provost’s Honor Roll (min. 3.75) honoree and has a 3.967 overall GPA.

A native of San Juan, Argentina, Madcur went 21-12 in doubles this season, peaking at No. 33 and finishing at No. 61 nationally and eighth regionally with Perez-Somarriba. She also garnered the first national singles ranking of her career, placing No. 114 on Feb. 20.

Madcur turned in a 3.575 spring GPA and has a cumulative mark of 3.728. The finance major has made the Dean’s List (min. 3.5) in all six of her collegiate semesters, twice making the Provost’s Honor Roll.

The Hurricanes have now logged 42 total All-ACC Academic Team accolades over the past 13 years, with multiple players on the list in each of the past 12. Madcur is the 18th Miami player to make the cut, while Perez-Somarriba is the 13th multiple-time honoree and Lohan is the seventh with at least three such distinctions.
