CORAL GABLES, Fla. — The University of Miami baseball team will host visiting Pittsburgh for a three-game series beginning Friday, April 20 at Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field.

The game pits two teams coming off crucial ACC series wins; Miami topped a top-10 Clemson team by winning two of three games from April 13-14 in Clemson, S.C., while the Panthers are coming off a series victory over Georgia Tech from April 13-15 in Pittsburgh, Pa.

The Hurricanes are tied with Georgia Tech for third place in the ACC Coastal Division with a 9-9 conference record; Pitt is one game behind both teams, in fifth, with an 8-10 ACC record.

First pitch for Friday’s series opener is set for 7 p.m. on ACC Network Extra, 790 The Ticket and WVUM 90.5 FM.

Miami continued its momentum from its series win over the Tigers Wednesday in an 8-1 victory over FGCU. Freshman Chris McMahon was brilliant in the win, tossing eight innings with eight strikeouts and allowing just one run. He struck out a career-high eight batters in a masterful performance.

The Hurricanes entered the week with the No. 1 strength of schedule nationwide and an RPI that cracked the top 60, checking in at No. 57, according to WarrenNolan.com.

Miami has never lost to the Panthers at home, boasting a 12-0 all-time mark at The Light; the Hurricanes have a 17-1 all-time record against Pitt, and won two of three games in last year’s head-to-head series at Charles L. Cost Field.

In Pitt’s last trip to Miami, the Hurricanes swept the Panthers in a weekend series from May 13-15, 2016; UM won the three games by a combined six runs, including one-run wins in the first two games of the weekend.

Senior lefthander Jeb Bargfeldt will oppose Pitt righthander Dan Hammer in the series opener Friday. After giving up six runs in the first two innings against Clemson in his last start, Bargfeldt settled down to toss six innings before the Hurricanes exploded for eight runs in the ninth to eventually erase an 11-3 deficit. Miami won, 12-11, in a historic comeback effort.
