W. Tennis Hosts Boston College and No. 25 Syracuse
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s tennis team will play on its home court this weekend for the first time in 18 days.
No. 18 Miami (10-6, 6-3 ACC) is set to square off with Boston College Friday at noon and then face No. 25 Syracuse Sunday at 11 a.m., at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
Both contests will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra, with action against the Eagles HERE and the match against the Orange HERE. Live stats for both affairs can be found HERE.
The Hurricanes are 24-1 all-time against Boston College, including 17-0 at home, and have 16 shutout wins in the series. Most recently, Miami notched a 4-0 triumph on April 28, 2017 in Rome, Ga., in the ACC Championship quarterfinals.
Miami has a 9-1 all-time mark versus Syracuse, posting six shutouts and taking all seven meetings in Coral Gables. In the most recent contest, the Orange registered a 4-3 home victory on April 9, 2017.
Led by 17th-year head coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews, the Hurricanes have two singles players in the national rankings. Sophomore Estela Perez-Somarriba holds the sixth spot, the highest mark of her career, while senior Sinead Lohan checks in at No. 75.
Miami is one of two schools, along with UCLA, to feature four ranked doubles pairs. Perez-Somarriba places No. 34 with junior Ana Madcur and is No. 66 with junior Daniella Roldan. Madcur and Lohan come in at No. 82, while sophomore Dominika Paterova and freshman Ulyana Shirokova sit at No. 88.
Boston College heads into the weekend with an 11-7 (3-6 ACC) record thus far in 2018. The Eagles’ lone ranked singles player is No. 89 Asiya Dair. They do not have any doubles duos on the Oracle/ITA list.
Syracuse, coming off a 4-3 triumph against then-third-ranked Georgia Tech for the biggest win in program history, is 14-3 (6-3 ACC). The Orange play No. 19 Florida State Friday before taking on Miami two days later.
Gabriela Knutson is the third-highest-ranked player in the ACC, holding the No. 10 spot in the country, and is Syracuse’s only ranked individual in singles. The Orange also have a ranked doubles pair, as Knutson places No. 12 with Miranda Ramirez.
Following the matchups with the Eagles and Orange, Miami will cap its regular season home slate April 15 at 11 a.m., against Virginia Tech
