Perez-Somarriba Reenters Nation’s Top 20

CORAL GABLES, Fla. Sophomore Estela Perez-Somarriba once again headlines the University of Miami women’s tennis team’s representatives in the Oracle/ITA national rankings, as announced Tuesday.

The sophomore checks in at No. 18 in the nation, rising five spots from her place in the Feb. 20 release. This is the third time in her career, including the second this spring, the Madrid native is ranked in the top 20. She the fifth-highest-ranked player in the ACC this week.

Senior Sinead Lohan also moved up in the rankings, ascending eight positions to take the No. 108 spot on the list.

In doubles, Perez-Somarriba and junior Ana Madcur fell one place and are now ranked No. 34 nationally.

The Hurricanes, who previously had not compiled enough wins to factor into the mathematical team rankings, reentered the list at No. 42 in the country.

Miami (5-3, 2-0 ACC) has won three straight matches and resumes play Friday with a doubleheader at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla. The Hurricanes take on Longwood at 8 a.m., then face No. 16 Florida State at 6 p.m.
