Madcur Earns First ITA Spring Singles Ranking
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Three University of Miami women’s tennis players are featured in this week’s Oracle/ITA rankings, along with one doubles pair, as announced Tuesday afternoon.
This is the first time since Feb. 21, 2017 three Hurricanes are nationally ranked in singles. Sophomore Estela Perez-Somarriba, currently No. 23, and senior Sinead Lohan, sitting at No. 116, were also a part of the prior trio.
The other member of this week’s group is junior Ana Madcur, who holds the No. 114 position. The third Hurricane ranked last year was then-redshirt senior Maci Epstein, now the team’s student assistant coach, at No. 97.
For Madcur, this is the highest singes ranking of her collegiate career. In addition, it is the first time she has been nationally ranked in the spring. She was previously No. 117 in the country in the fall of 2016 and was No. 20 in the Southeast Region to cap the 2016 spring campaign.
Along with their singles rankings, Perez-Somarriba and Madcur held steady at No. 33 on the Oracle/ITA doubles list.
Miami (2-3) will be back in action Saturday at 2 p.m., when it takes on Georgia State in Fort Myers, Fla.
