SAACthlete of the Week – Deejay Dallas
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami football player Deejay Dallas is an active member in the Hurricanes’ Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. See how Miami SAAC has helped this Hurricane sophomore prepare for life after graduation in this week’s SAACthlete of the Week.
Why did you decide to be a part of SAAC?
“I became a part of SAAC to show people, who don’t really know me outside of football, my other side. I also became a part of SAAC to give back to the community.”
What is your favorite memory from SAAC?
“The panel that I was a part of is definitely my favorite SAAC memory.”
Why did you pick UM?
“I picked UM because of the rich history of winning that the U had. I wanted to be a part of the revival of the U and restore our great program back to dominance.”
What is your favorite moment in your sport so far as a Hurricane?
“My favorite sports moment from this past season was playing Notre Dame in front of a full house and scoring my first collegiate touchdowns.”
What skills have you gained from being in SAAC or through the many developing events?
“Always consider others and help those in need.”
How has your team benefitted from having a SAAC?
“SAAC has helped us grow as men and it also allowed for the world to see us not just as football players, but actual people.”
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced in your college career and how did you overcome it?
“One of my biggest challenges was actually time management. I overcame it by maturing and making sacrifices when it was hard.”
Tell us about the Athletes Taking a Stand event, what it meant to you and why you decided to volunteer to be part of the panel?
“The panel meant a lot to me. I volunteered because I thought I could share my experiences, as a black male growing up in the deep South. I was just glad to be a part of such a great panel with great panelists. I was truly honored to even be up there with them.”
What is a fun fact about yourself?
“I love Sushi.”
