CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The No. 11/12 Miami men’s basketball team entertains Florida A&M (0-2) at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Watsco Center. ACC Network Extra has the live broadcast online, while WQAM 560-AM has the radio broadcast.

Miami (2-0) started its season in strong fashion last weekend with big wins over Gardner-Webb (77-45) and Navy (89-55) at the Watsco Center, where the Hurricanes have won 29 of their last 31 games.

UM showed balance throughout its lineup and put five players in double figures in scoring in each of its first two games. Four players are averaging 11.5 points or more through the first two games, led by Dewan Huell, who had a pair of 14-point performances last week. Ja’Quan Newton (13.5), Ebuka Izundu (13.0) and DJ Vasiljevic (11.5) also are averaging in double figures, while eight Miami players are averaging at least 5.5 points per game.

Miami’s defense also came out of the gates strong, limiting its opponents to 32.5 percent shooting from the field, including just 27 percent from 3-point range. UM twice held Gardner-Webb scoreless for at least five minutes – a 6:03 span in the first half and for 5:11 to start the second half.

Miami and Florida A&M are meeting for the first time since the 2001-02 season. The Hurricanes have won each of the previous seven meetings with the Rattlers, all of which have come on Miami’s home court. The programs have squared off only one time in the last 20 years, a 90-62 Hurricanes’ win on Dec. 18, 2001.

Florida A&M dropped both of its road games last weekend to open the season, falling 67-51 to Grand Canyon Friday before suffering a 108-66 defeat the next night at UNLV. Desmond Williams averaged 18 points and 7.5 rebounds in the first two games, while Isaiah Martin put up 12 points and 8.5 boards per game.

A limited number of UM season tickets remain available for the 2017-18 home schedule, beginning at $150. For more information, call 1-800-GO-CANES or visit the men’s basketball ticket page at HurricaneSports.com.

Miami returns to action next Wednesday (Nov. 22) with a 6 p.m. neutral-site game against La Salle at Santander Arena in Reading, Pa.
