Miami XC Closes Season at NCAA South Regional
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Miami cross country program had a trio of runners finish in the top 50 at the 2017 NCAA South Regional.
Nathan Kuck, Sean Grossman and Maryam Jawid led the 11 Hurricanes racing at the Harry Pritchett Running Park in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
Kuck, a graduate transfer from Bowling Green University, placed 29th in the men’s 10K with a time of 31:54.0 that ranks seventh in UM history. A fellow senior, Grossman finished 43rd posted a time of 32:13.9 in his final collegiate race. Adam George, Sean Hagert and Jacob Triarsi also competed in the men’s 10K, helping Miami finished 16th with 426 points.
“Nathan ran a gutsy race,” Miami distance coach Damon Griffiths said. “For the men to close out the season 16th overall, it shows how much of an impact that these seniors have made.”
Kuck took the Hurricanes by storm this season by setting multiple personal bests and a school record in the men’s 8K. He also earned two victories this season, winning the FAU Invitational and USF Invitational.
Grossman ran in three NCAA South Regional meets during his time as a Hurricane and closes out his career second on UM’s all-time list in the 8K and sixth in the 10K.
Freshman Maryam Jawid finished her season placing 50th in the women’s 6K in her first-ever NCAA South Regional. She posted a time of 21:17.8 that ranks third all-time in UM history.
Jawid currently ranks sixth in UM history in the women’s 5K and had multiple top-10 finishes during the regular season.
Anne den Otter ran a personal-best time of 22:05.8 that ranks seventh in the women’s 6K in school history. Abby Kettle, Emma Langlois, Carla Rodriguez and Simone Vreeland joined Jawid and den Otter in the women’s 6K, helping Miami finish 23rd with 654 points.
“We are very young on the women’s side,” Griffiths said. “We can reflect on the season and find ways to improve for track season,” Griffiths said.
