Women’s Tennis Earns ITA Academic Honors
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s tennis team received a total of five honors from the ITA, as announced Tuesday afternoon.
For the third consecutive season, the Hurricanes were tabbed as an ITA Academic Team. The distinction is given to a program that has a cumulative team GPA of at least 3.20 for the academic year.
Miami was one of 720 teams, male or female, to receive the recognition across the Division I, Division II, Division III, NAIA and junior college levels. It is the fourth time in the past five years head coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews’ squad has been honored.
In addition, four Hurricanes picked up individual accolades from the ITA. Redshirt senior Maci Epstein, junior Silvia Fuentes, sophomore Ana Madcur and freshman Estela Perez-Somarriba each made the ITA Scholar-Athlete list.
The award is given to student-athletes who posted a GPA of 3.50 or better for the academic year, earned a varsity letter and have completed at least two semesters at the collegiate level. This is the third straight year Fuentes has garnered the distinction and the second consecutive season Madcur has done so.
Miami has now had 16 total ITA Scholar-Athlete recognitions bestowed upon its players over the past three seasons. This is the fourth time in the past five years four-plus Hurricanes have made the cut.
