Three Named Rowing All-ACC Academic
CORAL GABLES, Fla. — Three members of the University of Miami rowing team were named to the 2017 All-ACC Academic Rowing Team, as announced by the conference office on Wednesday.
Alexa Aguilar, Taegan Lynch and Halle Alitz were among 52 ACC rowing student-athletes named All-ACC Academic following the 2017 season. The team was selected from a record 265 nominations from the ACC’s nine schools that sponsor rowing, an average of 29.4 rowers per team, also a league record. To be nominated for the All-ACC Academic team, student-athletes must have recorded a minimum of a 3.0 grade point average in the winter semester and have maintained a 3.0 career GPA at their respective schools.
Aguilar is a junior creative advertising major who helped the Canes go undefeated at the Knecht Cup and earn ACC Crew of the Week honors for their performance. A native of West Palm Beach, Fla., she helped Miami win the Petite Final at the ACC Championships and was part of the Varsity Eight that earned a pair of wins at the Sunshine State Cup. Aguilar, who was named a 2017 CRCA National Scholar-Athlete, is a six-time Book Buster and has earned Athletic Director’s Honor Roll and Dean’s List distinction five times.
A team captain, Lynch was a Second Team All-ACC selection in 2017. She was a member of the Varsity Eight all season, helping the Canes go undefeated at the Knecht Cup and earn ACC Crew of the Week honors for their performance. The junior from Vashon, Wash., also was on the Varsity Eight boat that won the Petite Final at the ACC Championships and earned two wins at the Sunshine State Cup. A physiology major, Lynch is a six-time Book Buster and Athletic Director’s Honor Roll selection, while making the Dean’s List four times. She is also a two-time CRCA National Scholar Athlete.
Alitz was an impact performer as a freshman at Miami. The Boston native helped the Canes go undefeated at the Knecht Cup and earn ACC Crew of the Week honors for their performance. She was also part of the Varsity Eight boat that won the Petite Final at the 2017 ACC Championships and earned a pair of wins at the Sunshine State Cup. Alitz has earned President’s Honor Roll once and Provost’s Honor Roll, Dean’s List, Athletic Director’s Honor Roll and Book Buster honors twice.
