Trio of Canes on All-ACC Academic Team
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – For the first time in program history three members of the University of Miami men’s tennis players have been selected as All-ACC Academic Team honorees, as announced Monday by the conference.
Senior Max Andrews, junior Kevin Bondar and sophomore Dane Dunlap each were listed, as the Hurricanes were one of only five ACC schools to have at least three student-athletes recognized.
Duke and Virginia lead all institutions with five selections apiece followed by North Carolina with four. Miami and Wake Forest each have three student-athletes, while Clemson, Georgia Tech, Louisville and Notre Dame all have two. Boston College and Florida State round out the team with one representative each.
Andrews, from Manchester, England, graduated this spring with a degree in international studies. The senior completed his collegiate career ranked in the final ITA polls, forming the country’s No. 58 doubles tandem with fellow classmate Jesse Flores. As a pair they knocked off three ranked opponents, all at the No. 1 position, including a victory over the nation’s then-top-ranked team, Skander Mansouri and Christian Seraphim, 6-4.
Bondar, from Calabasas, Calif., is majoring in biology while enrolled in the Miami Honors Program in Medicine – a seven-year BS/MD program associated with the Miller School of Medicine. The president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) has made the Provost’s Honor Roll (minimum 3.75 GPA) in all six of his collegiate semesters, as well as earned President’s Honor Roll (4.0) accolades five times. This spring the junior was tapped into a pair of elite campus honor societies, including the elite Omicron Delta Kappa (ODK) National Leadership Society and Nu Kappa Tau Chapter of Mortar Board.
Dunlap, from Washago, Ont., Canada, is majoring in business technology. The sophomore tallied eight doubles victories alongside junior teammate Christian Langmo in dual matches. In singles, Dunlap posted six victories at both the No. 5 and No. 6 position, while picking up his first career dual match victory against St. John’s Adolfo Blanco, 6-3, 6-2, on Jan. 20.
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0-grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career for undergraduate students. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team
