Two Canes Named CoSIDA Academic All-District

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Jonathan Keller and Amanda Gale of the University of Miami track and field program were named to the 2017 CoSIDA Academic All-District Track & Field/Cross Country Teams on Thursday.

Keller was one of 10 student-athletes selected to the All-District 4 men’s team, while Gale was one of 10 women’s honorees named to the District 4 team. Student-athletes from schools in Alabama, Florida, Georgia Puerto Rico and South Carolina are eligible for District 4 selection.

“Jon and Amanda were two hard working seniors in their events, as well as in the classroom,” Miami director of track and field/cross country Amy Deem said. “We are excited to see them earn this well-deserved honor.”

Keller was an outstanding student at Miami, earning President’s List every semester of his academic career. The Circle Pines, Minn., native graduated in May with a bachelor’s degree in audio engineering, finishing with a perfect 4.0 grade point average. Keller was a key member of Miami’s distance team, finishing third in the men’s 5000m at the Hurricane Invitational, posting a personal-best time of 15:11.23 in the men’s 5000m at the Florida Relays and running a season-best time of 3:57.16 in the men’s 1500m at the Hurricane Alumni Invitational. He also earned USTFCCCA All-Academic Team honors for cross country.

Gale was a member of the 2017 ACC Indoor Champions women’s team, earning Second Team All-ACC honors after she finished tied for sixth with a mark of 3.96m at the ACC Championships. Her career-best vault at the conference meet is tied with her twin sister Emily for second all-time in the indoor women’s pole vault in school history. She also had top 10 finishes at this year’s McCravy Memorial Invitational and Tiger Paw Invitational. Gale finished her career ranked third all-time in school history in the outdoor pole vault with a mark of 3.91m.

First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America® honorees will be selected next month.
