Chris Lykes scores 16 in Ball is Life All-American Game

2017 Ball is Life All-American Game 

Incoming University of Miami freshman Chris Lykes tallied 16 points in the 2017 Ball is Life All-American game Saturday in Long Beach, Calif.

After scoring nine first-half points, Lykes came out firing on all cylinders at the start of the second half. Going coast-to-coast, he finished with a layup before knocking down a pull-up 3-pointer moments later. The incoming freshman then showed off his passing skills, with a behind the back dribble before throwing up a dime off the backboard for the alley-oop finish.

Overall, Lykes finished the evening with 16 points and two assists while converting on a pair of shots from beyond the arc.

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Incoming University of Miami freshman Chris Lykes will compete in the 2017 Ball is Life All-American game, to be played at the Hall of Champions Gym in Long Beach, Calif., on May 6 at 6 p.m. ET.

For the second consecutive season, the event will feature a future Cane, with sophomore forward Dewan Huell competing last spring. Converting on seven field goals, the Miami native finished the afternoon with 14 points and a steal.

Lykes is a 5-foot-7-inch guard who averaged 22.0 points, 4.3 assists, 3.7 rebounds and 2.7 steals this past season for Gonzaga High School in Washington, D.C.

In mid-February, Lykes broke his school’s career scoring record, besting the previous mark of 2,069 points, set by Tom Sluby (Notre Dame ’80-84, Dallas Mavericks) from 1976-80.

Lykes is expected to arrive on the UM campus in time for the Summer B session of classes, which begins July 6.
