Miami Set to Host No. 3 Virginia

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s tennis team returns to its home court Friday afternoon in a matchup against the two-time defending national champions.

Miami is set to host No. 3 Virginia at 3 p.m., at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center to begin its final weekend of the season.

Friday’s match will mark the 22nd meeting between the Hurricanes and the Cavaliers, with UVA leading the all-time series, 17-4. Miami dropped its most recent matchup versus then-No. 1 Virginia, 7-0, on April 17, 2016.

Miami (8-11, 2-8 ACC) will enter the match with a trio of Canes represented in the ITA rankings as junior Piotr Lomacki checks in at No. 59 in singles, as announced Tuesday.

Joining Lomacki in the rankings for the third week in a row, seniors Max Andrews and Jesse Flores form the nation’s No. 50 doubles tandem.

Virginia (23-1, 9-1 ACC) features five nationally-ranked singles players, including No. 12 Thai-Son Kwiatkowski, No. 47 Collin Altamirano, No. 90 Henrik Wiersholm, No. 112 Carl Söderlund and No. 125 JC Aragone.

In doubles, Söderlund teams up with Luca Corinteli to form the nation’s No. 15 doubles pair. In addition, Corinteli and Kwiatkowki form the nation’s No. 38 duo, while Corinteli also teams up with Wiersholm at No. 65.

Miami will wrap up the regular season when it faces Virginia Tech Sunday at noon, as the team celebrates senior day at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
