A Trio of Canes in the ITA Rankings

CORAL GABLES, FLA. – As has been the case all season long, University of Miami men’s tennis junior Piotr Lomacki represents the Hurricanes in the latest ITA singles rankings, released Tuesday, checking in at the No. 59 position.

Playing No. 1, Lomacki is 11-7 during his junior campaign, earning a quintet of victories against fellow ranked opponents. In non-conference play, the junior defeated then-No. 51 Jack Findel-Hawkins of North Florida, 6-1, 6-1, before taking down Minnesota’s then-No. 68 Matic Spec, 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5).

Sunday, after falling in the opening set tiebreaker against Duke’s then-No. 89 Spencer Furman, the native of Warsaw, Poland dominated the second set, on his way to earning his third victory of the season against a ranked ACC opponent, 6-7 (3-7), 6-1, 1-0 (10-7).

Previously, the junior defeated North Carolina’s then-No. 19 Ronnie Schneider, 7-5, 6-4, before taking down Notre Dame’s then-ranked No. 54 Josh Hagar, 6-4, 4-6, 6-1.

Joining Lomacki for the third week in a row, seniors Max Andrews and Jesse Flores form the No. 50 tandem in the latest ITA doubles rankings.

On the season, the Canes’ duo has knocked off three ranked opponents including a victory over the nation’s top-ranked team, Skander Mansouri and Christian Seraphim, 6-4.

This weekend, Miami (8-11, 2-8 ACC) will return home to the Neil Schiff Tennis Center as it concludes the 2017 regular season against No. 3 Virginia and Virginia Tech. The Canes will open the weekend Friday at 3 p.m., as they welcome the two-time defending national champions to Coral Gables. Miami will then wrap up the regular season when it faces Virginia Tech Sunday, April 23 at 12 p.m., as the team celebrates senior day.
