ProCanes in the NBA Playoffs
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Two University of Miami graduates will take the stage in the 2017 NBA Playoffs as James Jones completes his 13th season in the league and Sheldon McClellan wraps up his rookie season.
Jones and the Cleveland Cavaliers face the Indiana Pacers while McClellan and the Wizards battle the Atlanta Hawks in the first round.
In the regular season finale against Toronto, Jones played a season-high 36 minutes, scoring nine points and pulling down six rebounds. He also added two assists and a block. Jones played in 48 games this year, knocking down 47.0 percent from long range and 47.8 percent from the field, averaging 2.8 points in 7.9 minutes per game.
In his final regular season game, McClellan scorched the HEAT with 18 points in his return to Miami. In 35 minutes, he was 6-of-11 from the field and had four rebounds. Two days earlier, the former Hurricane tallied 33 points, seven rebounds and four assists for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers in the first round of the D-League playoffs. McClellan was on assignment from Washington to the Houston Rockets’ affiliate for the game.
This season McClellan played in 30 games for the Wizards, averaging 3.0 points, 1.1 rebound and 0.5 assists in 9.6 minutes per game. He hit 40.0 percent from the field, 23.3 percent from three and 85.2 percent at the line in his first year in the NBA.
