@CanesRowing Ready for Sunshine State Invitational

SARASOTA, Fla. — The University of Miami rowing team is back on the water this weekend, racing in the Sunshine State Invitational.

The Hurricanes will have five boats in action in the two-day regatta at Nathan Benderson Park, which will host the 2018 NCAA Rowing Championship. The field will feature four Florida squads in Miami, UCF, Jacksonville and Stetson. Alabama, Kansas State, North Carolina and Tulsa will also line up on the water.

“We are looking forward to competing at the first Sunshine State Invitational regatta on the Nathan Benderson Race course,” Miami head coach Dave Sanderson said. “It should be exciting racing with eight boats across. The team has been training well and the athletes are excited to test their speed. We have been focused on increasing overall team speed and now it’s time to go race.”

Miami’s 2V4+ will be the first boat on the water, racing out of Lane 6 at 3:20 p.m. The varsity four is scheduled to run out of Lane 4 at 3:50 p.m., while the novice 8+ will race out of Lane 7 at 4:20 p.m. The Hurricanes’ 2V8+ drew Lane 8 in its opening race of the weekend, scheduled for 4:50 p.m., while Miami’s varsity 8 will close out the first day of competition, racing out of Lane 1 at 5 p.m.

Following this weekend’s action at the Sunshine State Invitational, the Canes will head to New Jersey to race at the Knecht Cup on April 8-9. For a complete look at Miami’s schedule, click here.
