CANES TRAVEL TO FORT MYERS TO PLAY FGCU
• The Hurricanes will make the short trip to Fort Myers, Fla., for a midweek matchup against No. 12 FGCU Wednesday, March 29 at 6:30 p.m. on WVUM 90.5 FM.

• Miami carries a commanding 16-2 all-time series lead against the Eagles, and have won eight of the last 10 matchups dating to 2012.

• The Hurricanes are a perfect 6-0 in Fort Myers, with five of those wins coming at Hammond Stadium – home of the Fort Myers Miracle. Miami has only played once at FGCU’s on-campus stadium, Swanson Field, winning the game, 15-4, in 2015.

• Miami freshman righthander Greg Veliz (2-1, 2.70 ERA) is looking for his third straight win against FGCU’s Mario Leon (2-1, 3.33 ERA). The Eagles have won eight in a row entering Wednesday’s game and are ranked in the top 15 of every major college baseball poll.

LAST TIME OUT: MIAMI DROPS SERIES TO #8 UNC

• Miami finished last week with a 2-2 record, capturing a midweek win over FAU on March 22 and taking one of three games in a weekend series at No. 8 North Carolina in Chapel Hill, N.C.

• Freshman righthander Greg Veliz delivered another impressive start against the Owls (3/22), striking out a career high-tying seven batters in 5.2 innings to improve his record to 2-1.

• Miami fell behind early in both Games 1 & 2 at Boshamer Stadium to fall to North Carolina in a series for the first time since 2013.

• Junior lefthander Michael Mediavilla delivered his best start of his season in a Game 3 win, tossing 6.1 innings to help top UNC, 6-2.

HEATING UP

•  Over the last 10 games, sophomore Romy Gonzalez has led UM  with a .333 average (12-for-36). He has two homers, seven RBI, a .467 on-base percentage and a .556 slugging percentage over that span.

• Over his last three starts, junior lefthander Michael Mediavilla is 3-0 with a 4.15 ERA with 16 strikeouts compared to six walks in 17.1 innings. In his first three starts, Mediavilla was 0-3 with a 5.84 ERA.

• Senior Johnny Ruiz has reached base in 18 straight games.

• Since being reinserted into the starting lineup on March 18, junior shortstop Brandon Gali has led the team with a .333 average (7-for 21) and has one double, one triple and five RBI in six games.

• Four Miami hitters are batting over .300 in conference play: junior Michael Burns (.343), Gali (.333). junior Carl Chester (.324) and Gonzalez (.314).

ONE OF THE GAME’S TOP SKIPPERS

•  Jim Morris‘ 1,546 wins at the Division I level are fifth-most in the history of college baseball and third-most among active skippers.

•  Miami’s first ACC series against Georgia Tech pitted two of the winningest coaches in college baseball history: Morris and Georgia Tech’s Danny Hall (1,182), who replaced Morris in Atlanta when Morris was named Miami’s head coach prior to the 1994 season.

•  Morris reached two major milestones in 2016 – he  became the fifth coach to reach 1,500 wins on March 18 against Louisville and won his 1,000th game at Miami on March 26 vs. Clemson.
